Getting a referral

Mental health admissions

The following steps are required to be admitted to our hospital for mental health support.

Get a referral

You will require a referral from your GP or treating doctor, to a psychiatrist with admitting rights at our hospital.

Assessment of referral

Once we receive your referral, our admissions and assessment team will give you a call to conduct an over-the-phone assessment. We will require and check your insurer details during this assessment (this includes health funds, workers compensation insurer or other). You can also self-fund an admission to our hospital however, this still requires you to have a referral. Following this assessment, we will then discuss your referral with a psychiatrist with admitting rights. This is a psychiatrist who consults to our hospital under their own independent business.

Acceptance of referral

When we have confirmed that a psychiatrist with admitting rights has accepted your care, we will contact you to arrange your admission date. We will then arrange transfer of your care and management to a psychiatrist with admitting rights.

Costs and Insurance cover

Our Admissions and Assessment Team will confirm the following with you

  • What costs will be covered
  • Any out of pocket-of-pocket expenses to be paid
  • Any excess or co-payment with your health insurance required to be paid at time of admission
  • Self-funded options to be paid at time of admission, generally 10 days up front plus Doctors
