Dr Nila Kasianandan is a highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist based at Townsville Private Clinic, offering evidence-based, culturally sensitive care for children, adolescents, and adults across regional North Queensland. She holds Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), with advanced training in Addiction Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
Dr Nila’s clinical expertise includes the assessment and management of emotional, behavioural, and developmental disorders in young people; comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in children and young adults; trauma-informed care for PTSD and veterans; and perinatal and infant mental health support to promote positive attachment and emotional wellbeing. She also provides specialised treatment for substance use disorders and dual diagnosis presentations, with a strong focus on recovery and resilience in the context of intergenerational and transgenerational trauma.
Her approach is holistic and recovery-oriented, working in close partnership with patients, families, GPs, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver personalised care that supports long-term mental health and wellbeing. In addition to her private practice, Dr Nila also contributes to public mental health services through her role at the Child and Young Adults Service at Townsville University Hospital and as a senior lecturer at James Cook University.
