Inpatient Admissions

As an inpatient, it is important that you are familiar with our processes and information provided. There are specific tasks you need to attend to so that your stay runs smoothly.

How do I get Admitted?

Ask your Doctor or Specialist to refer you to Townsville Private Clinic.

Referral can be to a Psychiatrist with admission rights to the Clinic or to the admitting doctor.

Our Psychiatrists

Our team of health professionals specialises in assessing and treating mental health disorders and the exacerbation of pre-existing disorders.

A referral is required from your GP or treating doctor, to a psychiatrist with admitting rights to our hospital. A member of our admissions and assessment team will conduct an over-the-phone assessment and require your health fund details.

Following assessment and health fund check, we will discuss your case with a psychiatrist with admitting rights, who consult to our hospital under their own independent business. On acceptance of the referral, we will contact you to arrange admission and transfer of your care and management to a psychiatrist with admitting rights.

Costs and Insurance Cover

Our Admissions and Assessment team will contact your insurer (health fund, Workers Compensation insurer or other) to confirm exactly what costs will be covered, and what out-of-pocket expenses are to be paid.

If you have an excess or co-payment with your health insurance, you will be required to pay this at the time of admission.

Self-funded patients will be required to pay at the time of admission. We require an upfront payment covering 10 days of service, in addition to the Doctor’s fees.

Please contact our Admissions and Assessment team on 1800 884 767 who will arrange for an estimate of expenses to be provided.

What do I bring to Hospital?

Please bring the following items with you to the Clinic:

  • Letter of referral from your treating Doctor or Specialist, unless this has already been sent to the hospital
  • All medications you are currently prescribed and any repeat prescriptions
  • Medicare and private health insurance cards
  • Health care cards and pharmacy safety net details
  • Casual comfortable day clothes
  • Comfortable footwear
  • Clothing and footwear suitable for exercise and walks
  • Nightwear (for inpatients)
  • Personal toiletries

For all electrical appliances (if essential), please advise Clinic staff on arrival as they must be inspected by the clinic staff for safety reasons.

Our Admissions and Assessment Coordinator will advise you of any other requirements, prior to admission.

On Arrival

On the day of your admission please arrive at the time confirmed with the Admission and Assessment Coordinator.  Our reception staff will welcome you upon arrival to our hospital and confirm your admission details.

If your private health cover requires you to pay an excess or co-payment this will be required at reception.

You will also be required to sign some important documents which include informed financial consent and our privacy policy.

A member of our team will guide you to your room and provide an orientation to the hospital. Nursing staff will introduce themselves and discuss the ward routine relevant to your treatment and complete your admission assessment. This assessment in consultation with yourself, your nominated carer and the psychiatrist will form the basis of your plan of care.

The Clinic doesn't accept responsibility for security of your possessions, including jewellery, watches and money. We ask that you arrange for valuables to be taken home.

When admitted, you will be under the care of a treating Psychiatrist who will see you throughout your admission. An experienced team of Nursing and Allied Health professionals will also support you.

A member of nursing staff will spend time with you to get to know you and undertake admission questionnaires and assessment.  You will be reviewed by a Psychiatrist within 24 hours of admission and also see our General Practitioner.  These assessments will assist your treating team to develop a treatment plan in collaboration with you to meet your care requirements.

After an assessment, you will join one or more of our inpatient therapy programs. Our Clinic offers evidence-based therapies for anxiety treatment, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD and a range of needs and diagnoses.
