Dr Kiran Sharma

Dr Kiran Sharma is a dual trained Consultation Liaison and General Adult Psychiatrist. She completed her medical degree from James Cook University in Townville in 2015 and completed a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Sciences from the University of Toronto in Canada in 2005.

Born and raised in Canada, she has become part of the community in Townsville since 2010. Dr Sharma completed her fellowship in Townsville and has an appreciation of this regional garrison city. She is a health and exercise enthusiast who practices the advice she offers to patients for proactive approaches to health.

Dr Sharma utilises a holistic and trauma - responsive approach to care. She prioritises an understanding of the person she reviews and customises treatment accordingly.

Dr Sharma has interest and specialist training in consultation-liaison psychiatry in the general hospital, perinatal psychiatry, co-morbid complex medical and psychiatric issues, neuropsychiatry and neurostimulation. She supports defence, veterans and all patients looking for psychiatric recovery.

She is the perinatal psychiatrist at the Townsville University Hospital. She holds a senior lecturer title with James Cook University School of Medicine and is the 2024 Queensland Representative for the Binational Committee for Trainees to the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). Dr Sharma is a member of the RANZCP Queensland Perinatal and Infant Mental Health committee. She has completed the Perinatal Training Centre Perinatal & Infant Mental health Intensive training. She has a passion for improving access to and delivery of high-quality health care, education, research, and training in medicine and in psychiatry.
