Fees and Accounts
We accept patients with insurance from most private health funds, uninsured self-funded patients, Department of Veterans' Affairs recipients, or patients with approved Workers Compensation.
Private Health Insurance
Townsville Private Clinic will verify your insurance prior to your admission.
You may find that your health fund doesn't fully cover your stay and that an out of pocket balance may occur. You will be informed of this prior to admission.
Estimated out of pocket expenses are payable on admission.
You're not required to pay the portion of your account that's covered by your health fund as we'll claim benefits on your behalf.
As part of the Hospital's policy on informed financial consent, you'll be provided with an estimate of expense form and asked to sign this form as part of your admission.
Effective 1 April 2018, Australian Government changes to private health insurance coverage for mental health services will take effect.
Read about these changes, and how it may apply to you.
Uninsured Self-Funded Patients
Uninsured patients are required to pay an initial deposit based on an estimated length of stay, weekly in advance. The Admission Co-ordinator will provide you with further information about this requirement as part of your admission process.
Department of Veterans' Affairs Patients
Townsville Private Clinic is a Tier 1 provider for the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA).
As part of this relationship, we provide a range of psychiatric and mental health services to eligible veterans and war widows, including:
- Pre-admission and discharge planning support
- Assistance co-ordinating and streamlining care
- Referral to appropriate services and resources
- General health and lifestyle education, and counselling
Veterans’ Accounts and Entitlements
If you are an eligible veteran or war widow, you will not receive an account for personal expenses for treatment at Townsville Private Clinic.
For pharmacy and personal items you have purchased, not related to your admission diagnosis, you will receive an account.
DVA Accommodation
DVA patients will have a shared room as part of our agreement. You will share a room with a person of the same gender.
Transport to and from Hospital
Some DVA patients are eligible to have transport arranged for them. Contact DVA.
Patients can pre-arrange transport vouchers with their doctor or health professional before admission to cover their return journey.
More Information for DVA Patients
If you are a DVA patient, you must have your admission approved before admission. The DVA will receive your account to pay us directly.
For more information about DVA admission, contact the DVA on 133 254 or your local Veterans’ Affairs office on 1800 838 372. Visit DVA.
Workers Compensation
Workers Compensation patients need to have their claim approved prior to admission to the Clinic.
Your account will be sent directly to the insurer for payment.
Other Charges
After you leave the hospital, you may receive an account for other charges incurred during your stay that are not the responsibility of the hospital. This may include charges for medications not related to your admission or diagnosis.
